Music Review: Anthrax - Worship Music

Worship MusicWow, what a long strange trip it has been. The band seemed to have been in a constant state of flux for the past decade. There was the parting of ways with longtime frontman John Bush, who joined the band in 1992. There was the reunion of the classic lineup and their tour with Judas Priest (what a great show that was). Then we had the recruitment of vocalist Dan Nelson and the recording of an entire album that was scrapped (would love to hear some of that stuff). Finally the core band reunited with classic-era vocalist Joey Belladonna, the Big Four tour, and now the release of a much overdue album. Phew. Well, let me tell you that the wait has been well worth it. While Worship Music is not one to break down barriers, it is one that brings Anthrax back to the discussion and is really a solid slab of metal.

DVD Review: The Tenant (2010)

This is a good example of a movie that does not know what it wants to be. It certainly had the potential to be an entertaining horror romp, but while it has a few things going for it, the end result is a movie with am unresolved identity crisis. The Tenant doesn't exactly have an enticing name and after seeing the movie, they probably could have come up with something a little snappier than borrowing the name of an old Roman Polanski feature. I am not sure what I would have called it, but even considering the misalign nature of the production, The Tenant seems like a rather droll title for such a potentially exciting horror outing.

Movie Review: A Good Old Fashioned Orgy

With such a titillating title, one could rightly assume an outrageous film, right? You would think so, yes. That begs the question, what exactly happened here? In my eyes, the movie was just a concept without any actual thought given to its execute. Much like this review, it doesn't really care how it turns out, it just lays there hoping that whatever it happens to do you will like. We all know that sort of thing just doesn't flu and isn't entertaining for anyone. Much like A Good Old Fashioned Orgy.

Movie Review: Shark Night 3D

This is a movie that is a little difficult to review. You see, I have a finely and continually cultured taste for both great films and lowly movies. Good movies, bad movies, I like all sorts of movies. So when it comes to Shark Night 3D, I was hoping for some campy fun, maybe a lesser Piranha 3D, which bloodied my eyeballs last summer. Granted, my hopes for blood were tempered by the PG-13 rating, surely a ploy to get a few more eyes in theaters before the inevitable unrated Blu-ray release. No, there is nothing wrong with some trashy cheesy fun, and that makes me sad to report that it is not fun at all.

Movie Review: Apollo 18

When I first saw the trailer for Apollo 18 I must admit to being immediately curious. We have finally sent the found footage style film into space. You know it was only a matter of time, just look at all the franchises that have sent their stories to the stars, such as Friday the 13th, Leprechaun, and Hellraiser! All right, maybe I was being a little facetious, but still, it was going to happen sooner or later. It's arrival has been met with a mixture of reviews, both good and bad, and capped with a healthy dose of anti-found footage sentiment. I never could understand the hate leveled against found footage films. Maybe I do, I just don't agree with it.

Movie Review: Colombiana

Action movies are a dime a dozen and sometimes I find it odd that people don't get as aggravated about them as they do some other genres. Not that I am complaining, mind you, but you will more often find people complaining of the latest romcom than the latest actioner. In any case, Colombiana is nothing you haven't seen before, so if you demand freshness and originality in your action fare, this is not going to be for you. On the other hand if you are more of an action junkie and like having a good time at the movies, this may just be the movie for you.

Movie Review: Don't be Afraid of the Dark (2011)

Don't be Afraid of the Dark is a movie I had which hopes for. It is an odd title and seems to remind many people, that I talk to anyway, of the the 1990's Are You Afraid of the Dark? series. In actuality it is a remake of a 1973 made for television movie of the same name. I have not had the pleasure of seeing that older movie, bit I have heard good things about it. This go around hits the big screen courtesy of Guillermo Del Toro who produced and co-wrote the screenplay for first time director Troy Nixey. The resulting affair is an up and down affair that I ultimately enjoy, but not without reservations.

Movie Review: Our Idiot Brother

When I first heard of Our Idiot Brother, I cannot say I thought about it all that much. I new that I wanted to see it, but aside from that it was not one of those movies that I really looked into for any plot synopsis or anything. Essentially, I saw that I starred Paul Rudd and had a solid looking supporting cast. That was really all that I needed. Yes, I did see the trailer and thought it looked rather funny, but I had no idea what it was about or what the plot may be. I didn't really care either, I like Rudd, he is one of those actors who consistently turn in good performances in fun movies.
